Senior and sophomore prizes in
mathematics given out last week
This year's winners of the Albert E. Lampen Award in
Mathematics
were Benjamin Schoettle and Jonathan Sedon. This award is given
each year to the graduating senior (or seniors) in
recognition of his or her outstanding achievement in the study of
mathematics at
Hope. This year's winners of the John H. Kleinheksel Award in
Mathematics
were Julie Pollock, Rebecca Schewe, Jennica Skoug, and Darren Van
Beek. This award is given each year to students taking sophomore
level courses for their outstanding achievement in mathematics and
promise for future success. The awards are named after two
longtime members of the mathematics department. Kleinheksel was a

mathematics education. Tammy taught mathematics in high school for
several years, most recently at West Ottawa High School.
Errata
Nathan Kooistra a senior majoring in mathematics and computer
science joined the Zeta of Michigan chapter of Phi Beta
Kappa. We mistakenly left his name off the list of mathematics
majors receiving that honor in our last newsletter.
