Senior and sophomore prizes in mathematics given out last week

This year's winners of the Albert E. Lampen Award in Mathematics were Benjamin Schoettle and Jonathan Sedon.  This award is given each year to the graduating senior (or seniors)  in recognition of his or her outstanding achievement in the study of mathematics at Hope.  This year's winners of the John H. Kleinheksel Award in Mathematics were Julie Pollock, Rebecca Schewe, Jennica Skoug, and Darren Van Beek.  This award is given each year to students taking sophomore level courses for their outstanding achievement in mathematics and promise for future success.  The awards are named after two longtime members of the mathematics department.  Kleinheksel was a member of the department from 1878 to 1916 and Lampen was a member from 1918 to 1957.

Congratulations to our graduating seniors

Fifteen mathematics majors are graduating this year.  Their names and their plans after graduation are as follows.  Congratulations go out to all of them as well as best wishes in their future endeavors.

Errata

Nathan Kooistra a senior majoring in mathematics and computer science joined the Zeta of Michigan chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.  We mistakenly left his name off the list of mathematics majors receiving that honor in our last newsletter.
