Name: Acidification of Lakes

Abstract: The acidification of lakes in parts of the United States is a problem of great concern.  A survey of characteristics of 148 lakes in the Midwestern and eastern United States was carried out to study acidification.  One of the variables measured was acid-neutralizing capacity (ANC).  This variable describes the capability of a lake to neutralize acid; low values can lead to a loss of biological resources.

Variables (column):

  1. ANC (Acid-Neutralizing Capacity)
  2. Type of Lake (0=Seepage, 1=Drainage)
  3. Silicon Dioxide (mg/L)
  4. Lake Area (hectares)

Possible Uses: Correlation, General Linear Model, Independent Sample T Test
