Maple Worksheets for the Figures

Includes Extra Maple Procedures

Also Includes the Data for Hogg/Tanis, 6th edition

These Maple worksheets were written to create the postscript files for the figures in "Probability and Statistical Inference," 6th edition, by Robert V. Hogg and Elliot A. Tanis. Many of them use procedures in the package of procedures that were written mainly by Zaven Karian. He has updated these procedures. However, we have used those that were written for Release 4 of Maple and they seem to work for Release 5 and most of them work for Release 6. These worksheets were written for Release 5 but they can also be used with Release 6.

A few of Professor Karian's procedures have been modified. For example, in the package, the relative frequency histogram is printed in a red dashed line. The modification presents them as filled in histograms.

To run these worksheets on your computer, copy statvr4.m and the .txt files onto your computer. The worksheets assume that they are copied onto the a-drive.  If this is not the case, you will have to modify the drive name when calling them. (DO NOT CHANGE THE NAMES OF THE .TXT FILES.)

Now copy the worksheets that you would like to run onto your a-drive. After you have copied the desired figures, open Maple and then open the figure worksheets.
